Wilbury
Primary School

Wilbury is a fantastic nursery in a modern, spacious building with amazing outdoor spaces. It accepts qualifying children from the age of two under the Enfield Borough Council Terrific Twos scheme, and all children from the age of three.

About Wilbury

  • We have a distinct approach throughout nursery and early years at Wilbury. Children get just the right blend of learning through play, following their own interests and being taught through adult-child interactions.

  • It’s a balanced approach that is very carefully planned but looks like the most natural thing in the world when it is delivered.

  • Being outdoors is key to our approach to nursery and early years.

  • Outdoor learning is great for developing confidence, resilience and the ability to collaborate, as well as having clear benefits in terms of physical development and well-being.

  • The same ethos and approach runs through the early years at Wilbury, from two-year-olds in nursery to our Reception children. We do this so that children become familiar and confident with this way of learning, and move seamlessly from one year group to the next.

Why send my child to nursery at Wilbury?

  • Attending nursery is seen by education professionals as an important way of developing their confidence, communication and social skills.

  • Children get the opportunity to be independent and form new relationships, skills that are important for their long-term mental and emotional wellbeing.

  • The routine and structure of time spent at nursery eases a child’s transition to school, especially when the nursery and the primary school are one and the same.

Who can attend Wilbury?

Two-year-olds
  • We accept children at the start of the term after they turn two.

  • This service is for children whose families receive income support or benefits.

  • Places are funded by Enfield Borough Council, so parents do not pay.

  • Families that qualify get 15 hours of nursery a week — three hours a day in either morning or afternoon sessions.

Three and four-year-olds
  • All children get 15 hours of nursery a week for free when they are three or four.

  • They start nursery in the September after they turn three. Some places are available for at the beginning of the term after a child turns three (we call these children Rising Threes).

  • This means that a child born in October could start nursery in the January after they turn three.

  • Families get 15 hours of nursery a week — three hours a day in either morning or afternoon sessions.

30 hours of nursery a week
  • Three and four-year-old children with two working parents or carers, or a working single parent or carer, can attend nursery for 30 hours a week.

  • This is fully funded by Enfield Borough Council.

  • A very small charge applies to these places to fund lunch and care between the morning and afternoon sessions.
